Dr. Robert Yap
Founded in 1955 as a passenger transport company, YCH is now the leading supply chain partner to some of the largest multinational corporations. Companies such as Samsung, Canon, LG, are just a few of YCH’s clients.
YCH’s corporate philosophy is embodied through the use of the Chinese character (Sheng) which means to RISE. The acronym R.I.S.E. also represents the company’s values – to be Reliable without compromising on Integrity, to be Sincere in the caring of their staff and clients, and to be Enterprising in their business.
YCH’s mission is to be the leading supply chain solutions partner of choice, leveraging on their network and depth across the Asia Pacific region. Their vision is to be The Logistics Superhighway through integrating the physical, information and financial flows in the supply chain. YCH has also expanded throughout the Asia Pacific, including Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Australia, Korea, India and China.
YCH credits her success to Dr. Robert Yap, the current Executive Chairman of YCH. Their achievements did not blossom overnight as it took YCH more than 60 years to get to where it is now. Robert’s father first started YCH in the 1950s as a passenger transportation company known as Yap Chwee Hock Transport and General Contractors. At a young age, Robert, who was mathematically inclined, was roped into the family business. He handled clerical work and helped organize the flow and movements of the lorries that were used to ferry passengers. As time went by, the business lost their customers to Singapore Bus Service (SBS). However, as the saying goes, when one door closes, another opens. Not long after, Robert started using the empty lorries to ferry shipments from the port. He has never looked back since.
In 2003, Robert was recognized for his significant contributions to the Supply Chain Management (SCM) industry and was conferred several awards including the Asia Logistics Hall of Fame 2003, ‘Ernest and Young Entrepreneurs of the Year’ Singapore 2007, World Chinese Economic Forum – Lifetime Achievement Award 2013 and the NUC Business School Eminent Alumni Awards 2014.
